Tourism advisory committee appointed for strategy execution 

Minister of Tourism and Lands Harin Fernando has appointed a 22-member Tourist Advisory Committee, which consists of experts in several fields, ranging from tourism to archaeology.  

Accordingly, the members of the aforesaid Advisory Committee are Panduka Keerthinanda, Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) Chairman Priantha Fernando, Shirantha Peiris, Chalaka Gajabahu, Dr. Kishu Gomes, Suresh Rajendra, Rohan Abeywickrama, Dharshana Tharanga, Maahen Kariyawasam, Buddika Hewawasam, Dr. Nirmal De Silva, Prof. Raj Somadeva, Aritha Wickramasinghe, Dr. P. Tharanga, Nirosh Gunawardena, SriLankan Airlines Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) Richard Nuttal, Angeline Ondaatje, Hiran Cooray, Chandrasiri Jayalath, Upali Dias, Chandani Wilson, and Prasad Ranasinghe.

Further, Sri Lanka Tourism Chairman Dr. Kishu Gomes said: “Minister Harin Fernando’s idea was to basically pool all the ideas together from people who understand the industry and who have actually been involved with tourism to support the Sri Lanka Tourism Board on strategy and execution.” 

He pointed out that the Advisory Committee comprises professionals from various disciplines, highlighting that one member is a Professor in Archaeology, while another represents the Ayurveda sector. Thus, he believes the committee well represents the entirety of the tourism sector.

Other professionals in the advisory committee include Maheen Kariyawasam, the Chairman of Andrew, a travel company, and has also served as a former board member of the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB), and Aritha Wickremasinghe, an international banking and finance lawyer and formerly an associate of global law firms such as Clifford Chance and K&L Gates.
