Renowned Hotelier Didi, Indian Billionaire Abhishek Verma Announce Strategic Alliance To Invest In Maldives

Legendary Maldivian hotelier Ibrahim Mohammed Didi and Indian billionaire Abhishek Verma has announced a strategic alliance to invest in Maldives, especially in the island nation’s lucrative tourism industry.

The agreement signed on February 9 by Didi and Verma’s Olialia World covers five strategic investments in the Maldives, including the recently announced Olialia New Maldives concept.The development concept includes the construction of four luxury hotels, Chariots of the Gods theme park, a shipping and container port, a Special Economic Zone with offshore banking and export zones for seafood and poultry, a freight terminal, helicopter service across the Maldives with a fleet of 10 twin engine helicopters, an 18-hole golf course, housing project for upmarket villas and chalets, a bank, two hospitals containing about 300 inpatient beds each, and monorail between the islands of the northern atolls of Maldives along with a five-kilometre connecting bridge.


ITB Berlin Kicks Off With Record Number Of Representatives Showcasing Maldives

ITB Berlin 2018 has kicked off with a record number of representatives taking part in it, showcasing Maldives.According to a statement by Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), together with their officials, 268 representatives from 104 companies will take part in ITB Berlin2018. Maldives Ambassador for Germany Jameela Ali and MMPRC’s Acting Managing Director Haris Mohamed will be leading the delegation of Maldives during the fair to be held in Berlin, Germany from March 7th through 11th.The fair which is held at the Messe Berlin Exhibition grounds in German capital of Berlin, the Maldives is showcasing a variety of destination-specific experiences at a newly-designed 405 square metre, two-storey stand.

Thai Developer Singha Estate Acquires Outrigger Konotta Maldives Resort

Thailand-based developer Singha Estate has announced the acquisition of the Outrigger Konotta Maldives Resort.In a regulatory filing with the Thailand Stock Exchange, Singha Estate said its subsidiary S Hotels and Resorts (SC) Co. Ltd has entered into an agreement with Outrigger Hotels Hawaii to purchase six properties in its portfolio. The deal includes 100 percent ownership of Outrigger Konotta Maldives Resort, Outrigger Koh Samui Beach Resort, Outrigger Laguna Phuket Beach Resort, Outrigger Mauritius Beach Resort, Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort and Castaway Island.The total value of the deal will not exceed USD 350 million, which includes asset purchase valued at USD 250 million and assumed debt of up to USD 100 million.

Subject to regulatory approval, completion date for the sale has been set for June.As part of the deal, management under Outrigger Hotels and Resorts will continue.

Air France Begins Direct Flights To Maldives

Air France on 02 Nov 17  began operating direct flights to the Maldives.The maiden flight of Air France landed at the Maldives main Velana International Airport Thursday morning to a water salute. Economic minister Mohamed Saeed along with top officials from state-owned airport operator Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) greeted the crew and passengers.Air France will offer two weekly flights to the Maldives on departure from Paris-Charles de Gaulle.The airline will use a Boeing 777-200 jet equipped with the latest Air France travel cabins, and with a capacity of 312 seats, including 28 in Business, 24 in Premium Economy and 260 in Economy. Flights operate on Wednesdays and Saturdays on departure from Paris and on Thursdays and Sundays on departure from Male.
